Christmas Programs for Tweens and Teens

We have Christmas craft programs to offer for all our patrons who are Teens or Tweens (10-12 years old). Advance registration is required for these programs; please call and let us know you’re coming so we have plenty of supplies on hand. The programs will also feature snacks!

The Tween event will be offered at both branches on the following dates:

Dillsboro Public Library: Tuesday, December 5th from 4-6 p.m.

Aurora Public Library: Friday, December 8th from 4-6 p.m.

Our Tweens will be making votive candle holders and will get battery-operated tea lights to use with them. These will be great to have on hand for the holidays and would also make nice gifts!

The Teen craft will be a wine glass candle holder. Peggy and Cathy will be stepping teens through the process of creating these at the Aurora Public Library on Thursday, December 7th from 6-8 p.m. Again, please sign up ahead, because we have a limited number of spaces available.

Teen Programs Begin June 8

Build a Better World Teen Poster

Our “Build a Better World” teen programs get started on Thursday evening, June 8th from 6-8 PM at the Aurora Public Library. These programs are open to anyone ages 13-19 and always include games, activities and snacks. Teen programs will take place most Thursdays in June and July. One exception will be on June 15th, when there will be no evening program. However, teens are invited to create a mixed-media art journal on June 15th from 2-5 pm. The art journal program does require advance registration and you’ll need to be able to attend on June 29th to complete your journal.

One highlight for teens this summer will be a special Music and Movement workshop presented by performers from Bi-Okoto, an African drum and dance ensemble.

Other evenings we will be exploring ways to contribute to our world through writing, service, art and more. We’ll also be sharing lots of great book recommendations as we go through the summer. Each time you come into the library, remember to enter a drawing for one of our great prizes. Mark Thursday evenings down as your night at the library and bring some friends with you!

Build a Better World Logo for Teens

It’s Game On for APLD Teens!

Slogan

Our Summer Teen Programs are going great, but it’s always more fun with a bigger crowd of people! Try to make it to the Aurora Public Library on Thursday evenings from 6-8 PM for food and fun. Here’s what’s coming up during the Teen Programs in July.

On July 7th, we have 2 things going on. First, we’ll chat about the book The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider. This is the book that all teens received when they signed up for the Summer Programs. Don’t worry if you don’t get the book finished – we’d still like to hear your opinions about the events of the book.

beginning

After we stretch our mind with the book, it’ll be time to stretch our bodies with some yoga. Whether you already practice yoga or are a complete beginner, this will be a relaxing way to wind down your evening.

Hip Hop

On Thursday, July 14th, we have a special guest coming in to teach us all to dance hip hop. Remember each program also includes food and door prizes, in addition to lots of laughter!

actual game

We will wind up the Summer Teen Programs at the Aurora Public Library on Thursday, July 21st with a night of LARGE games. This will also be the night when we draw for prizes from the Reading Slip box. If you haven’t put many blue slips in the box, don’t worry – there’s still time! You get to complete a blue slip for reading a book, for coming to a program, for bringing a friend with you, and for being willing to tell the other teens about a book you read. Plus, everyone who comes to the final event will get another special prize!
