Summertime Story Walk®!

storywalk blog header

Take a stroll and read a story with the whole family at this fun outdoor event!

The Aurora Public Library District has created two Story Walks® for the 2023 Summer Reading Program! Starting June 8th, you can stroll through the Dillsboro Community Park and read “When Pencil Met Eraser” by Karen Kilpatrick and Luis O. Ramos, Jr. You can read “I Am You: A Book About Ubuntu” by Refiloe Moahloli at Lesko Park starting June 9th! We will have ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the start of each Story Walk on June 8th and June 9th, respectively, at 11:30 am. Bring the whole family and read with each other to meet your Summer Reading goals!

A Story Walk® is an exciting, interactive storytime for the whole family that encourages literacy and outdoor activity. Pages of a story are posted on signs in order around a path in a park or by a walking trail for families to follow along. Each sign features a question that encourages critical thinking and discussions about the story among family members and friends.

These Story Walks® will be up until July 21st, so you have tons of time to read and walk and do it all over again! As always, this time spent reading our Story Walks® count towards your Summer Reading goals, so don’t forget to start your reading timer on the Beanstack app or keep track of the minutes to write it on your paper reading tracker to earn more prize tickets at the library!

The Story Walk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Story Walk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
