Explore this story and many more by beloved children’s author and illustrator Mo Willems at our Special Saturday Storytimes this September! It’s the Pigeon’s 20th birthday, so there’s no better way to celebrate! These storytimes are about all things Willems, including Elephant & Piggie, Pigeon, Unlimited Squirrels, and the Knuffle Bunny! Listen to your favorite stories, get up to sing and dance, and create cool crafts with Miss Tammy based on Mo’s best books, which you can check from the library with your own library card!

Aurora’s special storytime is September 23rd at 10:30 am and 1 pm. Meet us at the Dilslboro Public Library for our special storytime on September 9th at 10:30 am or 1 pm. We can’t wait to see you there!

September Storytimes!

storytime is back

The Pigeon, Duckling, Piggie, Elephant, Gerald, Knuffle Bunny, and Edwina are just a few of the characters you will be meeting at our September Story Times. Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems is all about a pigeon who wants to drive a bus when the bus driver takes a break! This September is the 20th anniversary edition of the book! Does the pigeon get to drive the bus? NO? MAYBE? YES? You’ll have to come to Story Time to find out… hint, hint… stay off the road.

Storytimes at the Dillsboro Public Library are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. Storytimes at the Aurora Public Library are Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 am. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces ready for a new adventure!

Regular Storytime is BACK!

A B C D E F G… no way can it be time for school to start! Summer is winding down! Here in our children’s library, storytime for August will be featuring none other than… LETTERS. Books about silly letters, learning letters, colorful letters, big letters, and little letters will have you ready to build, create, search, and do a little Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! How many books can you read that have letters in them?

Storytimes are at the Aurora Public Library on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 am and at the Dillsboro Public Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. Families of all ages are welcome to attend!

We can’t wait to see you all there, ready to read, craft, dance, and sing with us!

Color a Cool T-Shirt!

Color T-Shirts on July 18th and 19th.

Fill your wardrobe with a burst of color this summer at the library!

Visit the Dillboro Public Library on July 18th or the Aurora Public Library on July 19th to create your very own, completely unique color t-shirt to show off your style when you go back to school! This event starts at 11:30 am at both locations, but feel free to come to our family storytime at 10:30 am before the event starts! WE will have fun activities for the older kids to do during storytime as well.

Mellow Yellow Family Yoga

Mellow Yellow Family Yoga on July 11th and 12th.

 

Breathe in… Breathe out… Feeling mellow? Practice some calming family yoga during yellow week at the library!

Visit the Dillsboro Public Library on July 11th or the Aurora Public Library on July 12th to practice some calming techniques and stretch all your sillies out with the whole family after storytime! This program will start at 11:30 am at both locations, but feel free to come to our storytimes beforehand at 10:30 am too! We will have activities for the older kids during storytime too.

Tween Crafting!

Tween crafting at 10:30 am.

Tweens, come to storytime with your younger siblings! During storytime on Tuesday and Wednesday for summer reading we will have activities for our tween patrons, ages 6-12. After storytime, we will continue with the scheduled summer reading program event. These will be at both libraries: Dillsboro and Aurora.

The activities are:

  • Spongebob Spongebombs
  • Plantable Planter
  • Kindness Rocks
  • American History Trivia
  • Bath Bombs
  • Sand Art

All materials will be provided. We can’t wait to see you and the whole family there!

June Storytimes!

June Storytimes will be having you solve the mystery of what purple, blue, green, and orange have in common! You’ll have to come to our Storytimes at 10:30 a.m. to try to solve the June mystery. What could a rabbit and a bird have in common? Or, how about a cat and a fish? Then, throw in a hedgehog and a dog! Or, how about an elephant and a boy? I do not have a clue!  Do you?

We can’t wait to see you there with your thinking caps on! Don’t forget to bring the whole family with you to sign up for our Summer Reading Program! We will have fun, engaging programs after some of our storytimes during June and July! We will also be offering programs for older children during storytime hours so the whole family can enjoy the library! Check our newsletter or read our blog posts for more information on each one!

Blue Splash Days: Water Experiments!

Splash into the library with our blue week for summer reading!

This week, our summer reading theme is the color Blue. Join us after storytime with some cool water experiments and finish it off with outside water play to cool off in the hot sun. You might get a little wet!

Blue Splash Day will be held at Dillsboro on June 13th and Aurora on June 14th at 11:30 am.

All materials will be provided! We can’t wait to see you there!

Purple Haze Days: Tie-Dye Bucket Hats!

This summer, we’re having family programs after some of our morning storytimes! Our first family program is for our first color-themed week: Purple! We will be tie-dyeing bucket hats so you can stay cool in the heat while looking cool too! The program begins immediately following storytime at Aurora on June 7th or at Dillsboro on June 6th!

All ages are welcome to attend. We can’t wait to see what you create! Don’t forget to sign up for our Summer Reading Program while you are here to enter for a chance to win huge prizes! Ask a librarian to sign up today!

Tot Prom!

Get your best dress, pants, shirt, and tie ready because the “STARS” will be out for their own TOT PROM! That’s right… the “STARS” of this prom are no other than those precious kiddos from ages 0-4. What better way to celebrate “prom month” than hold one for the kiddos at the children’s library at Dillsboro Public Library on Tuesday, May 9th at 10:30 am? Another prom date will be at the Aurora Public Library on Wednesday, May 10th at 10:30 am. A photo booth, sensory table, corsage making, dancing, and snacks will be ready for the “STARS” to enjoy.

We can’t wait to see you there all gussied up and ready to boogie!
