Join Ron Nicholson, leader of our Between the Lines Book Club, as he shares 10 poems that permanently altered not only literary history but the world itself.
This program is part of a regional tour honoring National Poetry Month: April. Ron is thrilled to share his favorite famous poems with you as you venture into the world of creative writing.
This program will be held at the Aurora Public Library on April 11th at 6 pm. We hope to see you there, maybe with a pen and a pad of paper. You never know when inspiration may strike!
We want to celebrate YOU and all your reading this summer with a humongous summer party with SLED DOGS! Cool down with a snow cone from the Kona Ice truck and meet Karen Land and one of her sled dogs! Karen and her dogs have raced in sled races across the country, including racing in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska! Ask Karen your questions, snuggle a very cute doggo, and slurp up a snow cone or two! You deserve it for being a reader extraordinaire this summer! Summer Reading Program Prizes will be announced and some other door prizes will be given away!
Karen and her sled dog will visit on July 28th, coming to the Dillsboro Public Library at 11 am and stopping by the Aurora Public Library at 6 pm. Make sure to bring all your friends and family! See you there!
What an awesome summer! Celebrate by attending the Libraries Rock! Open Houses at the Dillsboro Public Library on Friday, July 20 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Aurora Public Library on Wednesday, July 25 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Walk around the buildings and view pictures from the Summer Reading Program, crafts, and enjoy some refreshments. The prize drawing will take place at 2 p.m. in both buildings as well as at the Local History Library @ the Depot on Wednesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. We can’t wait to see you there!
Join us at the Aurora City Park on Wednesday, July 18 at 1 p.m. for an interactive, visually entertaining jump rope show! The Rock ‘N’ Rope Warrior, David Fisher, will perform jump rope tricks with music, with audience participation and glow-in-the-dark jump ropes! No registration is required for this program, so come one and come all, and bring your families! This program will take place in lieu of the 1 p.m. Story Hour at the Aurora Public Library.
Libraries Rock! with Teen Musical Trivia Night and Inspirational Lyric Painting

the Aurora Public Library on July 19th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and test that musical knowledge!

Cool off at the Dillsboro Public Library on Monday, July 16 at 2 p.m. and meet a live African penguin, sponsored by the Newport Aquarium! Do you want a penguin to waddle around you? Do you wonder why African penguins are endangered? Would you like to learn more about them? Enjoy a live penguin encounter and stay for a penguin craft and a cool treat! No registration is required for this program!
Jump into Stories at the Aurora Recreational Community Center on Thursday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Listen to some rocking stories about jumping and moving, and then get up and move with jump ropes! No registration is required
Engineer an obstacle course for your hexbug that is better than your competitors’. Can your hexbug beat the others in an obstacle course that you and your friends designed? Come find out whose course is the best! Join us at the Aurora Public Library on Friday, July 13 at 2 p.m. for Hexbugs Galore, a Family Friday program! No registration is required, so bring your whole family and compete against each other!
The Dillsboro Public Library will be rocking with Craig Brenner on Wednesday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. Craig is a pianist, composer, arranger, and teacher from Bloomington, Indiana. He specializes in jazz, blues, and boogie woogie. Come listen to some rocking piano music and just try to keep your feet from tapping! No registration is required for this program.
Join us at the Dillsboro and Aurora branches during the first week of July to collaborate on a StickTogether poster grid. It’s kind of like a giant paint-by-number! Whenever you stop in, take a moment to apply colored stickers to a large coded grid to make the mosaic image come to life! I wonder what images there will be?
