I know the weather is sweltering right now, but it is NOT too early to start thinking about Christmas. I truly enjoy making gifts for people, especially those that appreciate handmade gifts. My list is long, so it is never too early to get started with the process of discovering cute ideas and getting them completed in plenty of time for the holidays.
When I first saw the hand-stitched felt pouch, I began to think of all the possibilities. Could it be a coin purse? Business card holder? Earring holder for travel? What if I learned the technique and then decided to change the shape and size? The possibilities are unlimited!
Adults and teens are invited to join me at the Dillsboro Library for a “crafternoon” on Tuesday, August 20, from 4-5:30. We will make a rounded felt pouch to learn the technique, plus embellish it with buttons and other fun things to make your pouch unique. You will also get ideas for using the technique to make other useful and fun holders. These will be great for gift-giving, without emptying your wallet.
To register, stop by or call the Dillsboro Public Library at 812-954-4151.
With spring just around the corner, the birds will be returning to southeast Indiana. The adult April craft will offer an opportunity to make a bird feeder out of a teacup and saucer. We will be adding a Macrame rope to hang the tea cup feeder with. Fill the feeder with bird seed of your choice and hang it outside. The birds will be attracted to your yard.
This event is for adults and teens, and the dates for the crafting program will be :
Tuesday April 23 for Dillsboro Public Library
Thursday April 25 at the Aurora Public Library
Space for the craft program is limited. Please stop by the desk and register. You may also call 812-926-0646 to register for either of the library locations.
Happy Crafting 🙂
Making cool “stuff” is a great way to pass the time, express your creativity — and for some, even make a living. But I found a study cited by CNN that confirms another huge benefit to crafting: Mental health!
From CNN: “Crafting can help those who suffer from anxiety, depression or chronic pain, experts say. It may also ease stress, increase happiness and protect the brain from damage caused by aging.”
The Aurora Public Library District is trying to do its part in helping adults and teens feel a little better with a craft program this month. We will be making a decorative mini-photo album, just right for carrying in your purse or to give as a gift. You may bring photos to put in the album that day or make an album for future use. These will be fun to decorate for any occasion.
Adults and Teens are invited to join us at Dillsboro Library on Tuesday, February 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. or Aurora Library on Thursday, February 21 from 6-7:30 p.m. to make this mini-photo album, eat some snacks and have fun. If anyone asks, you can always tell them you are going to the library for your health!
Register by visiting either library location or by calling 812-926-0646.
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, the town of Dillsboro will have a variety of activities planned around town. Dillsboro in Bloom will feature a Spring shopping extravaganza, gifts for Mothers Day, a Plant Sale, a Pop-Up Boutique, children’s activities and more! Plan to make the Dillsboro Public Library one of your stops around town. From 11 – 1:30, the Library will have a fun tulip craft available for kids to either make at the Library or take home. (It would make a great Mother’s Day card!)
Did you know March is National Craft Month? Get the whole family involved with kid-friendly paper crafts, from origami animals to tissue-paper pom-poms. Use leftover fabric and wooden beads to create a dazzling DIY necklace that will be the envy of all your friends. “Upcycle” old furniture and decor odds and ends using decoupage. Embrace your needle and thread and stitch your way through National Craft Month — making handmade phone covers, friendly stuffed animals, and so much more. Everything you need to know you can find out at your library. On the shelves and online we have a great selection of craft how-to books filled with ideas galore.
Who doesn’t enjoy a fun Thanksgiving craft? On Friday, November 18th and on Saturday, November 19th, we will have a cute turkey craft ready for you to do at the Aurora Public Library or the Dillsboro Public Library. We invite you to sit and make the craft at the library, or if your time is limited, you can just grab it and go. Everything you need to complete the craft will be in the bag! Make it early as a decoration or save it until Thanksgiving so your kids or grand-kids have something to do while they wait on the turkey.

The Aurora Public Library District wishes you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. The libraries will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will reopen on Friday, November 25th.
