Become a Citizen Scientist for Earth Day!

Have you heard the term “Citizen Scientist”? A citizen scientist is an ordinary person, just like you, who observes, or measures, or identifies and who sends the information to actual scientists doing research around the world. Become a citizen scientist and help support your community for Earth Day by taking part in our tree-planting program! It’s simple and easy to do!

Children ages 3-8 can pick up a coloring sheet from the Citizen Science displays at the Dillsboro or Aurora Public Libraries and color a beautiful Earth Day scene. Once finished, write your name in the space provided and email a picture of your finished coloring sheet to hello@BlueDotKidsPress.com AND stephanie@eapld.org by April 26th and One Tree Planted will plant a tree for you! Children ages 9 and up can take a photo of a tree in your neighborhood an upload the picture to the free Tree Snap App. Email your photo to hello@BlueDotKidsPress.com AND stephanie@eapld.org by April 26th and One Tree Planted will plant a tree for you!

Pick up a book on our Citizen Science displays to read about trees and Earth Day to gain some Citizen Scientist skills! You can also scan the QR codes on the display to learn about more citizen science opportunities.

Take It, Make It: Thanksgiving

Beginning on Monday, November 2, we will have a Thanksgiving Take It, Make It Activity available at both branches! Take It, Make It activities are projects that can be done at home with materials you can pick up at the library! You can also request curbside pick up. Just call 812-926-0646 (Aurora) or 812-954-4151 (Dillsboro) and let us know how many of the activities you need for your family!

Stop by the Aurora or Dillsboro Library November 2nd through the 25th to pick up the supplies to make this tremendous turkey! All the paper pieces and the googly eyes will be provided in your packet, but you will need glue to put it all together.

If you want your turkey to be featured on our social media, send a picture to Ms. Stephanie at stephanie@eapld.org. Please be sure to include if we have permission to share your picture and name on our Facebook page. Pictures must be submitted by November 30, 2020.

Libraries Rock! Music Rocks!

They say music soothes the savage beast, but we’re planning on bringing out all the wildness at Music Rocks! on Friday, June 22 at 2:00 at the Aurora Public Library. This Family Friday fun event will be filled with entertaining stories, singing, dancing, and games. But, we won’t stop there!

Have you ever played Mary Had a Little Lamb on bananas? You’ll get your chance to play a banana piano and other “interesting” musical instruments with the Makey Makey, so you won’t want to miss it.

Of course, the day won’t be complete without making musical instruments to take home. See you there!

Libraries Rock! Rock On!

Being “stuck between a rock and a hard place” certainly doesn’t bring about good feelings. Neither do the sayings —-“as dumb as a box full of rocks” or “your head is as hard as a rock.”  Rocks sure aren’t much fun, are they? WRONG! We think rocks are just getting a bad rap!

Join us on Friday, June 8 at the Aurora Public Library at 2:00 p.m. for Rock On!–a family fun afternoon, which includes some favorite “rock” stories and rock painting , plus learn how to play Rock, Paper, Scissors and join in our big tournament. You’re sure to have a Rockin’ good time!!
