Chat Reads the Hiddenseek in October

Chapter Chat is back with a little twist.

Children can pick up this month’s book with interactive elements that go along with the story. As you read, there are items in the bag that have page numbers on them. When you reach that page then you will open that item and use it along with the story!

A brother and sister are transported to a cursed world based on the game hide-and-seek, where they are pursued by a shape-shifting witch, the game never ends, and the only way to get home is to win.

Bags can be picked up at Aurora at the lower level desk and a Dillsboro. Meeting times are as follows:

October 25th @ APL – 4:30 pm

October 17th @ DPL – 3:30 (part of the afterschool program)

Snacks and Drinks will be provided.  Ages 7 to 12 only.

BLAST OFF to Storytime!

Rocket Science at APLD in October

Want to go to space someday? Or maybe you just want to learn about space here, safely on Earth? Come learn rocket science and other amazing things with APLD and the Kids Discovery Factory!

The program will then be offered to kids on Wednesday, October 11 from 1 pm–3 pm at the Aurora Public Library and Thursday, October 12 from 1 pm– 3 pm at the Dillsboro Public Library. Registration is recommended, but not required.

We can’t wait to explore space and blast off to the stars with you! See you there!

Lego Club Meets This Month!

Join us at Lego Club!

We encourage kids explore their creativity and create whatever they chose but if they need a little help, we have challenge cards available.

Feel free to collaborate in a group or by yourself. Afterward, we will put the designs up on the shelves in front of the children’s room to show off your creations.

No registration is required.

Legos are provided along with snacks and drinks.

We will be meeting at the Dillsboro Public Library on October 3rd at 3:30 pm and at the Aurora Public Library on October 18th at 5 pm.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Mo Willems Storytime in September

The Pigeon wants to drive the bus! Would you let this wacky bird take the wheel?

Explore this story and many more by beloved children’s author and illustrator Mo Willems at our Special Saturday Storytimes this September! It’s the Pigeon’s 20th birthday, so there’s no better way to celebrate! These storytimes are about all things Willems, including Elephant & Piggie, Pigeon, Unlimited Squirrels, and the Knuffle Bunny! Listen to your favorite stories, get up to sing and dance, and create cool crafts with Miss Tammy based on Mo’s best books, which you can check from the library with your own library card!

Aurora’s special storytime is September 23rd at 10:30 am and 1 pm. Meet us at the Dilslboro Public Library for our special storytime on September 9th at 10:30 am or 1 pm. We can’t wait to see you there!

Chapter Chat is back… with a little twist!

Children can pick up each month’s book with interactive elements in a bag that go along with the story. As you read, there are items in that bag that have page numbers on them. When you reach that page, you will have a fun, interactive element paired with the story to play with!

Yusuf Azeem is thrilled to attend middle school, but he is upset to see a letter that reads, “You suck.” He is passionate about robots and hopes to compete in the Texas Robots Competition and make the middle school robotics team. However, as the 20th anniversary of September 11th approaches, life for Muslim families and their friends in this small Southern town is becoming increasingly stressful.

Bags can be picked up at Aurora at the lower level desk and a Dillsboro. Meeting times are as follows:

Aurora: September 20th @ 4:30 pm

Dillsboro: September 19th – After School Hours (3:30 pm)

Snacks and Drinks will be provided.  Ages 7 to 12 only. Please register in advance by picking up a book today!

Ancient Aurora at the Depot!

Discover your hometown through the lens of a world before humankind with the Archaeological Research Institute! Bring the whole family to learn about the stories the river valley’s land can tell us and the mysteries that hide in the land that surrounds us. Then, put your thinking caps on and participate in some archaeological investigations to solve the mysteries of Ancient Aurora and what roamed the land before us!

This program will take place at the Local History Library @ The Depot on September 13th at 3:30 pm. Families of all ages are welcome to attend, though most subject matter and activities will be aimed at elementary-age children. Have any questions? Do you love to build and create new things? Are you interested in all things science and math? Love computers? Come check out our brand new Coding Club, open to ages 7 through 12!

Use code to make webpages, animations, games, and more! No prior coding or programming experience is necessary. Make friends while gradually expanding your knowledge about computers, web design, and much more!

Laptops will be provided as well as snacks and drinks. All you need to bring is your creativity! We will be meeting at the Dillsboro Public Library on September 12th after school (3:30 pm) and at the Aurora Public Library on September 13th at 4:30 pm. See you there!

September Storytimes!

The Pigeon, Duckling, Piggie, Elephant, Gerald, Knuffle Bunny, and Edwina are just a few of the characters you will be meeting at our September Story Times. Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems is all about a pigeon who wants to drive a bus when the bus driver takes a break! This September is the 20th anniversary edition of the book! Does the pigeon get to drive the bus? NO? MAYBE? YES? You’ll have to come to Story Time to find out… hint, hint… stay off the road.

Storytimes at the Dillsboro Public Library are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. Storytimes at the Aurora Public Library are Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 am. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces ready for a new adventure!
