Fall Children’s Programming

Our Summer Reading Program was quite the success. What a wonderful time we had this summer learning about different modes of transportation. Thank you to everyone who took the time to let your child attend these storytimes.

We are now getting ready for our Fall children’s programming which will be starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022. To say we are excited about the Fall Programming is an understatement. Listed below are brief descriptions of each program being offered.

Bloomer Time is a program for visiting preschools in the area. This program will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis from each preschool. We have tentatively set the time for these preschools to visit at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Aurora Public Library. If there is a Dillsboro area preschool that would like to visit our Dillsboro Branch, we will set a time that would work for them also on Mondays. These programs last around 45 minutes. Again, all preschool directors will be contacting either Leslie Sutherlin, Director, or Tammy Wohlfrom, Children’s Library, directly for these dates.

Sprout Time will be designed for children ages 3-6 to come in with an adult. Our program will consist of stories, songs, rhymes, crafts and/or learning activities. This age will blossom in no time to fantastic book lovers as we introduce age-leveled books geared to them. All caregivers will need to be present in the children’s area or right outside of our area. Our scheduled days are as follows for Sprout Time: Tuesdays at Dillsboro Public Library at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at Aurora Public Library at 10:30 a.m. This program will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

Seedling Time will be a program for our infants/toddlers from the ages of 0-2 years old. We are excited to offer this program and watch how these age groups react to our library time for them. Simple songs, nursery rhymes, fingerplay (easy motions/movement), sensory activity and of course a story is being offered to this age group. Of course, all caregivers are involved in this program which lasts around 20 minutes. The following days will be for our Seedling Time program: Thursdays at Dillsboro Public Library at 10:30 a.m. and Fridays at Aurora Public Library at 10:30 a.m.

And lastly, we are offering 4th grade on up ages (9+) to join us for our Chapter Chat Book Club which will be on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Dillsboro Public Library. The date for the Aurora Public Library location will be the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. We will be introducing our first Chapter Chat participants to Harry Potter. Discussion of the book, games, activities and snacks will round out our Chapter Chat meetings. Who knows, the next book we introduce may be decided by our participants in the club!

As you can see from all of the programming being prepared, we will be taking off the month of AUGUST to prepare for these events. Look out for our newsletter/calendar that will be listing dates of all of our programming events. We look forward to getting all the kids EXCITED ABOUT THE LIBRARY!

**Please note we realize there are siblings that may need to be in attendance as long as everyone understands that all program activities are geared towards the ages listed above.

Become a Citizen Scientist for Earth Day!

Have you heard the term “Citizen Scientist”? A citizen scientist is an ordinary person, just like you, who observes, or measures, or identifies and who sends the information to actual scientists doing research around the world. Become a citizen scientist and help support your community for Earth Day by taking part in our tree-planting program! It’s simple and easy to do!

Children ages 3-8 can pick up a coloring sheet from the Citizen Science displays at the Dillsboro or Aurora Public Libraries and color a beautiful Earth Day scene. Once finished, write your name in the space provided and email a picture of your finished coloring sheet to hello@BlueDotKidsPress.com AND stephanie@eapld.org by April 26th and One Tree Planted will plant a tree for you! Children ages 9 and up can take a photo of a tree in your neighborhood an upload the picture to the free Tree Snap App. Email your photo to hello@BlueDotKidsPress.com AND stephanie@eapld.org by April 26th and One Tree Planted will plant a tree for you!

Pick up a book on our Citizen Science displays to read about trees and Earth Day to gain some Citizen Scientist skills! You can also scan the QR codes on the display to learn about more citizen science opportunities.
