Open Houses!

We’re nearing the end of the Summer Reading Program which means we’re getting closer to drawing your name for the prizes!

All summer long, you’ve been putting your name and telephone number in for the drawing to win the prize of your choice every time you’ve come into one of our branches, whether it’s the $100-worth of books from the New York Times Bestseller List, the family pack with tickets to the Cincinnati Zoo, giftcards to Steak ‘N’ Shake and Greendale cinema, and more, the bicycle, the set of building blocks, or the prize pack with the Cincinnati Red’s tickets, iTunes giftcards, and more.

Join us for the end of the Summer Reading Program Open Houses at all three branches throughout the Aurora Public Library District to hear your name called for a prize! Starting at 1 p.m. you can stroll around the branches and look at pictures from programs and events that took place during the Summer Reading Program while enjoying refreshments or painting rocks for Dearborn County Rocks. At 2 p.m. the prize drawings will begin!

The Dillsboro Public Library’s Open House will take place on Tuesday, July 25 beginning at 1 p.m. The Aurora Public Library’s Open House will take place on Wednesday, July 26 also beginning at 1 p.m. Open House at the Local History Library @ the Depot will take place on Tuesday, July 25 beginning at 1 p.m. as well.

You can come and go as you please or come at 1 and stay the whole time! You do not have to be present if your name is called to claim the prize.

We can’t wait to see you!

Meet the Wump Muckets!

The Wump Mucket Puppets are returning to the Aurora Public Library District for a special performance on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Moores Hill Senior Center at noon! Wump Mucket Puppets is a Cincinnati, Ohio based touring troupe featuring the original songs, skits, and silliness of puppeteer Terrence Burke. Terrence and his zany cast of puppet stars have been entertaining audiences of all ages since 2010. All ages are invited; it will be fun for the whole family! The Senior Center is located at 16610 N. Broadway, Moores Hill, IN 47032.

This lively performance features two new puppet skits that compliment the 2017 theme “Build a Better World”. We are sure that young audience members will be BUZZING about this all Summer.

Bee Happy – Features puppet star Super Space Princess G’Wizzl visiting The Queen Bee, to learn how bees help us, and how we can help them.  This story will get kids up and dancing to a bee dance!

Coleman’s Green Team – Has Terrence’s furry friend Coleman the Sasquatch sharing simple things that the friendly puppet Witch Willie (and our young audience) can do to “be Green” by not being a litterbug, and take better care of our world.

The show is rounded out with our co-hosts Cyril and Coleman’s silliness, as well as some fun with Unka Unka the caveman planting a flower garden on the puppet stage!

Build a Better World through Drama with Kentucky Shakespeare!

We’re Building a Better World through Drama with Kentucky Shakespeare! The company will be coming to the Aurora Public Library on Wednesday, July 12 in lieu of Construction Zone time.

Kentucky Shakespeare is a professional and non-profit organization that has brought Shakespeare’s works to life through interactive adaptations in the tri-state area for decades. The company uses audience participation in their productions, which means that you could be chosen for a part!

Kentucky Shakespeare will be performing an adaptation of A Midsummer’s Night Dream at the Aurora Public Library. This event is free for the public and no registration is required.

If you would like to brush up on the play to prepare, you can check out a copy from the Library today!

Build a Better World through Music with Tom Sieling!

We’re Building a Better World through Music with Tom Sieling! Tom will be at the Dillsboro Public Library on Tuesday, June 27 during Construction Zone at 2 p.m.

Tom Sieling, widely acclaimed singer and songwriter from Newfield, New York, will perform a free family/children’s program called “Take a Tromp Through the Swamp!” This show consists of the most fun, humorous, and participatory kids’ songs Tom knows, along with cool facts about area animals and pictures of them and the homes they build.

Tom accompanies himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica, and a drum machine, and all songs include parts for the whole family, which means that the audience gets to participate, too!

All ages are invited and registration is not required for this event.

Thank You, Community!

The Aurora Public Library District loves our community! But what, exactly, is a community, besides the familiar buildings, neighborhoods, and surroundings we see or interact with on a regular basis?

My favorite definitions are (from the Merriam-Webster dictionary):

“a unified body of individuals;” “people with common interests living in a particular area.”

Communities band together in times of great crisis and need, as well as in times of happiness and celebration. Those in communities lend a helping hand where it’s needed and work together for the greater good. The Aurora Public Library District’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Building a Better World,” and what better place to start building that world than the community in your own backyard?

The Aurora Public Library District would be lost without our patrons and the wonderful community we have. We are thankful that you have let us be a part of your lives, and we are so happy to be a part of yours! We are also thankful for our wonderful community sponsors, who have donated money and prizes for the Summer Reading Program!

The Aurora Public Library District would like to extend our thanks to:

Aurora Lions Club                                                     Fraternal Order of Eagles #2022

Baker and Taylor                                                           Friendship State Bank

Deville Pharmacies                                                           Rullman Hunger Funeral Home

United Community Bank

What better way to celebrate our wonderful community than by attending a Community Celebration at the Dillsboro Public Library on Tuesday, June 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. and at the Aurora Public Library on Wednesday, June 21 from 1-2:30 p.m?

We can’t wait to see you there!

Teen Programs Begin June 8

Build a Better World Teen Poster

Our “Build a Better World” teen programs get started on Thursday evening, June 8th from 6-8 PM at the Aurora Public Library. These programs are open to anyone ages 13-19 and always include games, activities and snacks. Teen programs will take place most Thursdays in June and July. One exception will be on June 15th, when there will be no evening program. However, teens are invited to create a mixed-media art journal on June 15th from 2-5 pm. The art journal program does require advance registration and you’ll need to be able to attend on June 29th to complete your journal.

One highlight for teens this summer will be a special Music and Movement workshop presented by performers from Bi-Okoto, an African drum and dance ensemble.

Other evenings we will be exploring ways to contribute to our world through writing, service, art and more. We’ll also be sharing lots of great book recommendations as we go through the summer. Each time you come into the library, remember to enter a drawing for one of our great prizes. Mark Thursday evenings down as your night at the library and bring some friends with you!
