Winter Walkin’ Continues

Don’t walk alone! Walk with the Aurora Public Library District!

Meet us on Wednesdays at the Dillsboro Branch at 8:30 am and on Fridays at the Aurora Branch at 8:30 am to walk. Weather permits. Each time you join us, you will be entered to win a massage from Summer House in Aurora!

Let’s walk together in this winter wonderland! We hope to see you there, all bundled up, of course!

Crafty Creations with the Framery

Oh, the weather outside is frightful… but our crafts are so delightful! The Aurora Public Library District is hosting our adult crafting program for January with The Framery to help us create a lovely winter scene.

Crafty Creations, our monthly adult crafting program at the Aurora Public Library District is happy to announce a partnership with the Framery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to bring to our crafty patrons a winter-themed painting-with-a-twist class! All items will be provided and each class is limited to only eight attendees. There will be two chances for our adult patrons to attend this class, one at the Dillsboro branch on Thursday, January 12, at 4:00 pm and another at the Aurora branch on Thursday, January 26, at 6:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

Registration is required. Please call 812-926-0646 to register. We look forward to seeing you there! Stay cozy and warm!

The Ballad Tour: History and Horror

Join Ron Nicholson, head of our Between the Lines Book Clubs, as he recounts some of Scotland’s scariest scenes! Ron is fascinated with the Scots and their horrifying legends and wants to share them with you this Halloween season. Come to his discussion about terrifying Scottish folklore and enjoy snacks from the North Country. If you attend our event, you’ll also be entered for a chance to win the perfect cozy Scottish gift for the colder days ahead.

If you are interested in attending, please inform a librarian to be registered. Registration is recommended, but not required. We’ll see you there!

Craft Time @ the Library

Making cool “stuff” is a great way to pass the time, express your creativity — and for some, even make a living. But I found a study cited by CNN that confirms another huge benefit to crafting: Mental health!

From CNN: “Crafting can help those who suffer from anxiety, depression or chronic pain, experts say. It may also ease stress, increase happiness and protect the brain from damage caused by aging.”

The Aurora Public Library District is trying to do its part in helping adults and teens feel a little better with a craft program this month. We will be making a decorative mini-photo album, just right for carrying in your purse or to give as a gift. You may bring photos to put in the album that day or make an album for future use. These will be fun to decorate for any occasion.

Adults and Teens are invited to join us at Dillsboro Library on Tuesday, February 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. or Aurora Library on Thursday, February 21 from 6-7:30 p.m. to make this mini-photo album, eat some snacks and have fun. If anyone asks, you can always tell them you are going to the library for your health!

Register by visiting either library location or by calling 812-926-0646.

Adult Paint Party!

You’re invited to an Adult Paint Party! On Friday, July 21, the Aurora Public Library will host an adult program at 2 p.m., presented by Marge Beinkemper!

Marge Beinkemper is a member of the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild. She will walk through this painting step-by-step to turn your blank canvas into a Riverscape. You’ll want to display your painting where everyone can see, so make sure you register early! There are only fifteen spots for the program, so call or stop by the Library today to secure your place!

The Paint Party will take place during the last full week of the Summer Reading Program, when we’ll be Building a Better World through Words!

Build a Better World through Art with a Fused Glass Pendant!

If you enjoy crafting, jewelry, or learning a new skill, then this program is perfect for you! We’re Building a Better World through Art with this adult program!

On Thursday, June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Dillsboro Public Library, a Fused Glass Pendant program courtesy of the Framery will take place. Adults 18 and older will have the opportunity to create a pendant out of different pieces of glass. The pendants will then be taken back to the Framery and kiln-fired to fuse the glass pieces together to create a unique, one-of-a-kind necklace just for you.

Registration is required for this event, and as there are only fifteen spots, make sure you call or stop in and sign up early! This program comes at no cost to the patron which means that it’s absolutely free for you!

Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! Call the Library today for more information, or check out our newsletter!
