Tell Us Your Tattoo Story

Tattoo Tales is on September 16th

September 16th is National Tattoo Story Day!

In the week leading up to it, please stop by any of our circulation desks, write up a quick story about why you got your tattoo, and use our mobile printing service to provide a photo for display. Then everyone, tattooed or not, will gather in our Local History Library @ The Depot to share stories of the tattoos they have or the tattoos they dream of getting.

The meeting time is 1 pm on Saturday, September 16th at the old Aurora Train Depot. We can’t wait to see your ink and hear your stories!

Tic Tac TACO!

Drop into our Tic Tac Taco program anytime between noon and 2 pm on Saturday, September 16th at the Dillsboro Library for a day of games, food, and fun! Bring your friends and play giant Connect 4, Jenga, and Tic Tac Toe, enjoy tacos from our FREE Walking Taco Bar, AND decorate our back patio with sidewalk chalk!

Anyone 13-19 is welcome! We can’t wait to fiesta with you!

Paint with DIAMONDS!

Diamond Painting Gnomes in September

Give yourself the freedom to gnome! Join us in diamond painting a gnome keychain to put on your keys for a little bit of luck and a whole lot of sparkle as you explore the world. Each location has 12 gnomes waiting to be decorated, so we do require registration for this event. If the spaces fill up, our gnomes will pull random names for participation and call everyone 2 weeks before the program.

There’s gnome place like the Dillsboro Public Library on Wednesday September 13th at 4 pm or the Local History Library @ The Depot on Thursday, September 14th at 6 pm. We can’t wait to see your crafty creation!

Does the pigeon get to drive the bus? NO? MAYBE? YES? You’ll have to come to Story Time to find out… hint, hint… stay off the road.

Storytimes at the Dillsboro Public Library are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. Storytimes at the Aurora Public Library are Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 am. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces ready for a new adventure!

NYM Book Club Reads “Silent Patient”

Not Your Mother's Book Club Meets August 31st at HankeringWant some excitement in your book club? Check out “Not Your Mother’s Book Club” from the Aurora Public Library District, where you’ll get to read today’s hottest books from Booktok and beyond and discuss them with readers just like you! Olivia, our resident “edgy” book lover, will be there to lead the discussion and take recommendations from attendees. Remember, this is your book club, and your reading opinions matter!

This month, we will be reading “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. The Silent Patient Book Cover

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations: a search for the truth that threatens to consume him…

We will be meeting at Hankering Southern Kitchen at 6 pm on August 31st. You can pick up your book TODAY at the Aurora Public Library. We’ll see you there!
