91st Academy Awards Show

It’s Oscar Time!

The 91st Academy Awards aired on Sunday February 24, 2019 on ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.

1929 Oscars

The very first Academy Awards were held on May 16, 1929 at the Roosevelt hotel.  The very first host was Douglas Fairbanks, who was also the president of the Academy of Motion pictures that year.  The best picture award in 1929 went to the silent movie “Wings.” It has been the only silent movie to have ever won the Best Picture award.

A Star is Born tells the story of the relationship between a struggling artist and a musician.

A Star is Born won the Best Original Song for “Shallow.” 

Bradley Cooper was nominated for Best Actor in a leading role, Lady Gaga for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Sam Elliott was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

A Star is Born was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay,  Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing.

Black Panther

Black Panther

Black Panther  won Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design.

Black Panther was nominated forBest Original Song for “All The Stars”,  Sound Mixing  and Sound Editing.

The hero, Black Panther, tries to fight adversaries to avoid a world war from happening.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Rami Lalek won Best Actor in a Leading Role. 

Bohemian Rhapsody also won for Best Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

Bohemian Rhapsody follows Queen’s rise to fame and their lead singer Freddie Mercury’s solo career.

Dogs are exiled to a garbage dump called Trash Island.  A 12 year old boy goes to the island in search of his dog.

Ralph goes into the internet to search for a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game.

Glenn Close was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.  Close plays the role of Joan Castleman, wife of an acclaimed writer about to receive the Nobel prize for literature.  Joan dutifully plays the role of  a supportive and loving wife. Director Yorgos Lanthimos was nominated for Best Director,  Emma Stone nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role., Rachel Weisz nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role

The Favourite was also nominated for Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

Green Book tells the adventure of an African-American pianist who is on a tour of the south in 1962.

Green Book won for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay

Mahershala Ali won Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Viggo Mortensen was nominated for Best Actor.

Green Book was also nominated for Best Film Editing.

Christian Bale was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Sam Rockwell Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Amy Adams Best Actress in a Supporting Role
